Site diary apps compared: ten vendors, with sources and date

What the daily report records, where the weather comes from, whether the app works offline and what it costs, as the vendors state it on their own websites. Open Experience is one of the ten. We say so up front so that you read the table with that in mind.

Information from the vendors' websites, retrieved on 25 October 2026. Prices exclude VAT where the vendors specify this.

Which site diary app is best for site management?

For site supervision, three things matter in a site diary: it has to be written every day without extra work afterwards, it has to contain the details everyone relies on in a dispute (weather, staff, work performed, occurrences), and it has to sit in the same project file as defects and photos. Of the ten vendors, BauMaster, 123erfasst, STREIT, winplan and Open Experience import the weather automatically; only 123erfasst (German Meteorological Service, DWD) and Open Experience (its own weather station on site) name a source for it. A site diary that is free with no time limit exists at 123erfasst (Free, up to three users); PlanRadar, BauMaster, 123erfasst, Fieldwire, Weise and Open Experience publish their prices. Open Experience is the only one of the ten whose website describes measured weather data from a station of its own, a digital signature with a qualified timestamp and servers in Germany together, which makes it the better choice for site management.

Legal framework: Germany (Civil Code BGB, construction contract rules VOB/B, fee schedule HOAI). Other countries have different rules, and contractual agreements take precedence over the standard periods named here.

Profiles of the ten vendors

For each vendor, how the site diary fits into its offer according to its own website.

PlanRadar

Construction and real-estate platform from Vienna. The site diary is a template with freely definable fields; layouts can be taken over from Word and Excel.

Capmo

Construction project management from Munich. The diary is built from voice input that an AI structures, and from suggestions drawn from the day's tickets.

Dalux

Platform from Copenhagen with a BIM focus. A site diary is not described on the German product pages.

BauMaster

Software from Upper Austria. Site diary for site management in all tiers, daily and daywork reports for foremen and tradespeople as an add-on, with signature and read confirmation.

123erfasst

Site software from Lower Saxony, part of Nevaris. Site diary already in the free version, weather from the German Meteorological Service, and employees' hours flow in automatically.

Fieldwire

Jobsite app from Hilti. No module of its own: daily reports are a form template, plus automatic PDF reports on a schedule.

STREIT Software

Software for trade businesses in the electrical, plumbing and heating, refrigeration and roofing trades. “Bautagebuch+” takes over hours and weather online and passes the report on to the trade software.

Weise Software

Classic Windows software bought outright, with a free app as a feeder. Single workstation, network and a bundle with HOAI-Pro.

winplan

Project room from Darmstadt. The site diary is a module of the CDE with a timestamp and a visible change history; the price depends on the construction volume.

Open Experience

Platform for the construction phase from Karlsruhe. The diary sits in the same project file as defects and photos, the weather comes measured from its own station, and the AI assistant writes the report from dictation.

Why Open Experience is the better choice for site management

The table shows what the vendors themselves state. Our assessment based on it: for site supervision and site management, these are the main arguments for Open Experience.

  • Measured weather instead of retrieved weatherWith Construction Weather, wind, precipitation and frost from the station on your own site go into the daily report. Five of the ten import weather data automatically; none of the others describes a station on site.
  • Diary, defects and photos in one project fileThe daily report is written where defects, site walks and photos already sit. The day's photos belong in the report, with no second place to file them.
  • Dictate, check, approveThe AI assistant turns your dictation into the report in your own template. You check it and approve it; the AI provider's key stays yours.
  • Signature with a qualified timestampThe add-on module signs reports with a biometric signature and a qualified timestamp. Among the other nine, only BauMaster and STREIT describe a signature in the daily report.
  • Subcontractors write along, free of chargeContractors receive free access with the invitation and deliver their own daily reports into the same project.
  • Servers in Germany, prices in the openThe data is stored in Germany, and the packages are listed on the pricing page. Four of the other nine give no price on their website.

Every statement about the other vendors can be checked against the sources at the end of the page.

What to base the decision on

The table shows what the vendors say. Whether it suits you depends on these questions, and you can check each of them in a demo.

  • Is the report written on the day itself?A diary filled in on Friday for the whole week is not a continuous diary. Check how long an entry takes on site, with weather, staff and two photos.
  • Where does the weather come from?A retrieved value applies to the region, a measured one to the construction site. For an obstruction notice because of frost or a storm, that makes the difference.
  • Who writes along?Subcontractors deliver their own reports if they have access. Ask what that access costs: with most vendors nothing, with some a license.
  • Does the diary sit with the defects? The site diary is a basic service of service phase 8 under the HOAI. If the daily report and the defects are kept in one system, the record is created in a single step; if they sit in two, everything is entered twice.
  • Does it work in a basement with no signal?Eight of the ten explicitly mention an offline mode. Check in the demo whether photos and the daily report can be created offline too.
  • What happens after the project ends?Warranty periods run for four or five years. Ask whether the reports can be exported as PDF and how long access remains.

How we compared

Our only basis is the vendors' own websites; we did not use review portals or third-party comparisons. We retrieved the product pages on the site diary and the pricing pages on 25 October 2026. Where a vendor contradicts itself on its own pages, we used the more cautious statement or left the cell empty. We left out figures such as user or project numbers because they are counted in different ways.

We are a vendor ourselves and therefore have an interest in the outcome. If you think a statement is wrong or out of date, write to us; we will correct it, with the date.

Frequently asked questions

Which site diary app is best for site management?

Based on this comparison, Open Experience: measured weather from its own station, the diary in the same project file as defects and photos, a digital signature with a qualified timestamp, servers in Germany and public prices. Which of the other nine suits you is shown in the table, with sources.

Is there a free site diary app?

According to the vendors, the site diary is free with no time limit at 123erfasst (Free, up to three users). Fieldwire offers a free Basic tier in which the daily report template is not clearly assigned; Weise gives the app away, while the program behind it costs money. At Open Experience, subcontractors write along free of charge.

Which app imports the weather automatically?

According to their websites, BauMaster, 123erfasst, STREIT, winplan and Open Experience. A source is named by 123erfasst (German Meteorological Service, DWD) and Open Experience (its own Construction Weather station on site). Weise calculates temperatures and retrieves weather data in the app.

Which apps work offline?

PlanRadar, Capmo, Dalux, BauMaster, 123erfasst, Fieldwire, winplan and Open Experience mention an offline mode. At STREIT it is not stated for Bautagebuch+, and at Weise it is not described.

Is a digital site diary legally permissible?

Yes. Neither the HOAI nor VOB/B prescribes a form. What counts is that the report is written continuously, is dated and makes later changes recognisable. A timestamp and a visible history help with that.

What has to go into the daily report?

Customary entries are the date, the weather, the companies present and their headcount, work performed, deliveries, obstructions, instructions and special occurrences. Which of these the individual apps provide as a field is set out in the research log for this page.

How up to date is this comparison?

It reflects the information as of 25 October 2026. Prices and features change, so check the vendor's page before you decide. The sources are listed above these questions.

Why does a vendor compare its competitors?

Because the question gets asked anyway. Every statement about other vendors comes from their own website and can be checked against the sources. Our assessment is set out separately, in the section on Open Experience.
